What works
Alicante—
Torrevieja
  • The largest established British community on the Costa Blanca: English-speaking doctors, gestors, shops and clubs.
  • A year-round town rather than a summer resort, so shops, restaurants and services stay open in winter.
  • Property costs noticeably less than on the northern Costa Blanca (Jávea, Moraira, Altea).
  • A public hospital in town, plus private clinics.
  • Two salt lakes in a protected natural park, and a long seafront promenade.
What to weigh up
Alicante—
Torrevieja
  • Very built-up: dense apartment blocks and large urbanisations, with little old-town character.
  • No train or tram. You will need a car, or rely on buses.
  • Busy in summer, with heavy traffic on the N-332 and AP-7 junctions.
  • Easy to live entirely in English. Comfortable for some, isolating for others.
  • Many older urbanisation homes are built for summer, with little insulation or heating for winter.

Figures come from each town guide and are checked against official sources (INE padrón, AEMET, idealista). Costa-wide rows apply to the whole costa, not the town alone. A dash means we don't hold a checked figure yet.
