- What works
- Torrevieja
- The largest established British community on the Costa Blanca: English-speaking doctors, gestors, shops and clubs.
- A year-round town rather than a summer resort, so shops, restaurants and services stay open in winter.
- Property costs noticeably less than on the northern Costa Blanca (Jávea, Moraira, Altea).
- A public hospital in town, plus private clinics.
- Two salt lakes in a protected natural park, and a long seafront promenade.
Fuengirola— - What to weigh up
- Torrevieja
- Very built-up: dense apartment blocks and large urbanisations, with little old-town character.
- No train or tram. You will need a car, or rely on buses.
- Busy in summer, with heavy traffic on the N-332 and AP-7 junctions.
- Easy to live entirely in English. Comfortable for some, isolating for others.
- Many older urbanisation homes are built for summer, with little insulation or heating for winter.
