Which Costa Cálida town suits you?
Three quick questions and we'll suggest the towns that fit.
Background
About the Costa Cálida
Murcia's coast is the value end of the south-east. Asking rents for the Región de Murcia were about €9.5/m² in September 2026 (idealista), roughly €660 a month for a 70 m² flat, compared with about €890 just over the border in Alicante province. The region had 16,522 UK nationals at 1 January 2025 (INE census): far fewer than the Costa Blanca, but enough that you will find English-speaking help in the main resorts.
There are two quite different coastlines. Around the Mar Menor lagoon, Los Alcázares, San Javier and the La Manga strip have warm, shallow, calm water that suits young children and older swimmers. To the south-west, Mazarrón (including the Camposol urbanisation) and Águilas face the open Mediterranean and feel more like ordinary Spanish towns. Cartagena, with about 220,700 residents and Santa Lucía public hospital, is the real city for services. Golf resorts such as Mar Menor Golf Resort sit inland around Torre Pacheco.
Know the trade-offs before you buy. The airport is Región de Murcia–Corvera (San Javier closed to passenger flights in 2019), which has fewer UK routes than Alicante, so many people fly into Alicante–Elche, 90–140 km away. There is little coastal rail, so plan on a car. The Mar Menor's water quality has been a serious local issue since mass fish deaths in 2019 and 2021; check the current state of any beach you are relying on.
It suits retirees on fixed incomes, golfers, and second-home owners who want winter sun for less. Costa Bridge does not have local coverage on the Costa Cálida, but we can help you prepare remotely: route planning, documents and an honest area shortlist.
British community: Moderate and growing. Smaller than Costa Blanca or Costa del Sol but increasing as buyers seek value and warmer winters.
