The place

About Los Alcázares

Los Alcázares is a small, flat town on the western shore of the Mar Menor, with around 7 km of sandy beaches linked by a palm-lined promenade. Its beaches face the lagoon, so the water is shallow, warm and almost wave-free — one of the reasons families favour it.
It grew from a fishing and salt-working village into a low-rise resort, and it remains compact and walkable rather than high-rise. The town has a settled year-round population alongside a significant seasonal and second-home element.
For British relocation planners, Los Alcázares is a gentle, manageable option on the Mar Menor: quieter than La Manga, cheaper than some of its neighbours, and close to the public hospital at San Javier. The main thing to research before buying on the lagoon is water quality, which has been variable in recent years.
